This page explains how Cite Forward selects, evaluates, and scores AI tools. We update this page whenever our process changes.
1. How Tools Are Selected
We prioritize tools that are relevant to our core audience: researchers, academic writers, and professionals evaluating AI for writing, research, SEO, and productivity. Selection is based on relevance to reader needs, not payment or partnership status — we currently have no paid placements.
2. How Tools Are Currently Evaluated
Our current evaluation process is research-based, not hands-on. We are transparent about this because it directly affects how much weight our assessments should carry. Right now, we evaluate tools by comparing:
- Official product documentation and feature pages
- Published, current pricing from the vendor’s own site
- Publicly available third-party benchmarks, where they exist
- Patterns across multiple independent user reports and reviews
We do not currently conduct extended hands-on testing of every tool before publishing. Where a review is based on research rather than direct use, this is stated in the article. We are building toward direct testing for future reviews and will update this page when that changes.
3. How Pricing Is Verified
Pricing is sourced directly from each tool’s official pricing page at the time of writing. Because AI tool pricing changes frequently, every article listing pricing includes a “last verified” date. Always confirm current pricing directly with the vendor before purchasing.
4. How Features Are Checked
Feature claims are cross-referenced against the tool’s official documentation and changelog where available. We do not list a feature as available unless we can confirm it from the vendor’s own materials.
5. How We Handle Scores
Where we publish a score, it reflects our editorial assessment based on the research process described above — not an algorithmic or independently audited benchmark. We do not publish a numerical score without describing what it is based on directly in the article. We are not currently publishing comprehensive multi-criteria scorecards (Output Quality, Accuracy, Ease of Use, etc.) because we cannot yet back them with hands-on testing data. This will be added once our testing process supports it.
6. Updates and Corrections
AI tools change quickly. When we update an article for a material change — new pricing, a discontinued feature, a major version change — we update the “last verified” date and note what changed. If you spot outdated or incorrect information, please use our Contact page to report it. We review correction requests and update articles promptly when a report is verified.
7. Affiliate Relationships and Editorial Independence
Cite Forward does not currently participate in affiliate marketing programs. Our only source of revenue is Google AdSense display advertising, which does not influence which tools we cover or how we evaluate them. If we add affiliate relationships in the future, they will be disclosed on every page where they apply, and they will never determine our recommendations.
